Rodeo Goldmine

For several years I have been collecting old rodeo magazines, books and primarily the year-end editions of the ProRodeo Sports News. These are great to easily recap a rodeo season and keep up with the history of the sport. The first one was published in 1955 and they have been produced ever since in one format or another.

As I collected them over the years I acquired duplicates and also found the price and demand is like the stock market. The more people looking for them, the higher the price. I have bought some for a s little as $10 and others have sold for $169.95. A few weeks back I was contact by a gentleman looking to fill out his collection of year-end editions. He was missing one and it just so happended that I had for he was looking for. During the course of our conversation he mentioned he might want to sell out and I told him if he ever did to give me a call.

Within a couple of months he contacted me and we agreed on a price for his entire collection. Every year-end edition from 1955 to present, plus every Rodeo Sports News since 1966. They are still in boxes and I have not counted them yet, but it is more than 1,000. I am looking for to going through them page by page.

If there is anyone else out there that is a collector or looking to fill out a collection, get in touch with me and maybe I can be of assistance. Over the next few weeks the year-end editions will be going up on our website at www.cowboybookworm.com. My contact information is also available on that website.

Cowboy Bookworm

This is the beginning of what you might call an experiment. A little over two years ago I started a company called Cowboy Bookworm. I felt there was a niche for a company that specialized in books on rodeo, cowboys and the western lifestyle. I started a catalog that had maybe 12 titles in it, put up a website and got a booth at the Cowboy Marketplace in Las Vegas. The website and catalog now contain almost 300 titles and growing. I am in the process of creating a new website and this blog will be a part of that. At least until I get tired of rambling and updating the blog. This blog is not necessarily the experiment. The experiment is going to be if I can take Cowboy Bookworm to the next level. Which at this point is growing the customer base, expanding the business and hopefully someday turning a profit.
